Stephen Curry has made the coveted jump from NBA superstar to a pop culture phenomenon; from rapper Drake’s famous reference “I been Steph Curry with the shot” on his hit single “0-100/The Catch up” last year, to his unorthodox but extremely effective playing style of seemingly impossible three pointers/jump shots and drives. Last but not least, his ascension to the masses as a family man, with his daughter Riley often stealing the show with her charisma. But, it was his play on the court last season; winning the NBA’s MVP award while also leading the Golden State Warriors to a 67-15 record and their first NBA title in exactly 40 years, that prompted the Associated Press to pick Curry as their AP Male Athlete of the Year.

Curry this season hasn’t regressed, he’s impressed even more, proving he’s a legit threat in the small-ball craze that’s taking over the NBA. He’s averaging 31 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting 51 percent from the floor, 44 from three and just under 91 percent from the free throw line. Also wouldn’t hurt to note he’s led the Warriors to the best start in NBA history with 24 straight wins and currently a 28-1 record. Curry, the NBA’s reigning MVP, is also the emerging best player not only in the league but the world, AP Male Athlete of the Year and also a chance to join the 50/40/90 club.  And to add to that, he has taken the Warriors from cellar-dwellers to the NBA’s best team. If that’s who the high school kids want to be like, Mark Jackson, it shouldn’t be a problem.
