10. Tyson Fury Upsets Wladimir Klitschko To Become New World Heavyweight Champion

For over a decade, boxing’s heavyweight division was dominated by Ukrainian pugilist Wladimir Klitschko. Having defeated 19 opponents in the past 11 years, the division became an after thought, as middleweight and welterweight bouts became the sports main attraction. In November 2015, British contender Tyson Fury took on Klitschko, using his 6’9 frame and reach advantage en route to becoming the new WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion.

As astounding as it was to see a new champ crowned in the division, what followed was a bizarre turn of events as Fury was later stripped of the IBF title after refusing to face challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov. What makes this all the more strange is that Klitschko exercised his rematch clause, but the International Boxing Federation demanded that any title holder abide by their policies if they are to keep their belt. In a sport that has been marred with controversy and rumblings of corruption, the fallout from the Fury-Klitschko bout was yet another startling moment for the sport of boxing.
