On the heels of President Barack Obama‘s final State of the Union address tonight, the president, who just entered the final year of his 8-year term, has had his legacy discussed at length, by everyone from members of his intimate staff to the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, who sat down with CNN recently for an extremely emotional interview.

In the clip, which you can watch above, Biden gets pensive and candid about the man he’s worked side-by-side with since they were elected together in 2008, and when asked about the one memory of Obama that will stick with him, Biden told the story of when he and his wife were under the belief they’d have to sell their Delaware home to support his son Beau Biden, who was resigning in lieu of the serious nature of his illness. According to Biden, when Obama caught wind of Biden’s dilemma, he made the VP promise not to sell the home, and told him that he would give him the money he needed. “Whatever you need. I’ll give you the money. Don’t, Joe. Promise me.” Biden says he eventually told Obama that there was a likelihood he wouldn’t have to sell the Delaware home after all, and Beau, the former Attorney General of Delaware, passed away on May 30, 2015.
