Rene Angelil, the husband and manager of Celine Dion, passed away today after a long battle with cancer.

Angelil, who can be credited with helping mold Celine Dion into the megastar she is today, passed away in his home in Las Vegas. At the request of his family, the details surrounding his ailment and death will be provided at a later time. Celine Dion told USA Today in August that she had been caring for her dying husband and would be there to the very end for “the only boyfriend [she] ever had”. Dion has cancelled her upcoming performances at The Colosseum this weekend but is scheduled to return to her schedule February 23rdat Caesar’s Palace. Angelil originally met Dion when she was 12 as her manager. They were married in 1994 and had three children: Rene-Charles, 14, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 5.
