Rudy Gay‘s oft-promising career has been hindered by constant movement, and today he nearly switched teams once again.

SheridanHoops is reporting that today, the Kings reached out to the New Orleans Pelicans looking to swap Gay with Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson, but the Pelicans chose not to go through with it. Anderson, an 8-year NBA vet, is currently enjoying a fine season offensively, averaging 17 points and 6 rebounds per game in New Orleans, shooting just over 37% from behind the arc. Unfortunately, the Pelicans aren’t better off for it, and they’re sit at 12-26 as we approach the midway point of the season, good for third worst in the Western Conference.

On the other hand, it’s interesting that the Kings attempted to move Gay–their second leading scorer–who’s coming off a 2014-2015 campaign that saw him average career highs in points and assists per game. Though they’re currently below the .500 mark, they sit at just 2 games out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and with a core of Rajon Rondo, Gay and DeMarcus Cousins–who’s averaging a career-best 26 points per game–there’s reason to believe they could make a run at the postseason.

After spending the first 6 years of his career in Memphis, Rudy Gay was traded to the Toronto Raptors during the 2012-2013 season, and after less than two full seasons as a Raptor, Gay was shipped to the Kings, where it looks like he won’t be much longer.

The trading deadline isn’t until next month, so we’re pretty sure this isn’t the last Gay-related rumor we’ll hear.
