Lovers Rock debuts at number 3 on the Billboard Charts
Following an eight-year hiatus, the band released their fifth studio album, Lovers Rock, on November 13, 2000. The album reached number 18 on the UK Albums Chart, number-three on the US Billboard 200, and has since been certified triple platinum with 3.9 million copies in the United States. In 2002, Sade earned a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album and lead single “By Your Side” was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
‘Live Aid” concert in London
On July 13, 1985, Sade performed during the historic Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Live Aid was held simultaneously in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 72,000 people packed Wembley and 100,00 people attended the concert in Philadelphia. The concert raised over $280 million with an estimated 1.9 billion people watching the live broadcast in 150 countries.
