The Weather Channel reports snow totals have topped two feet from Winter Storm Jonas, with near-blizzard conditions, record coastal flooding, and winds over 70 mph in some coastal areas.

Government advisories have sent “emergency alerts” to people’s smart phones to warn them to cease all travel and stay off roads from 2pm ET today, due to the combination of strong winds and heavy snow.

Blizzard warnings remain in effect for more than 33 million people from northern Virginia to southern Connecticut, with the storm expected to start easing up by tomorrow morning.
