Sarah Palin unsurprisingly endorsed Donald Trump last month–“He is from the private sector, not a politician. Can I get a ‘Hallelujah!’”–but since then, she’s yet to publicly do an interview, opting instead to help Trump bolster his standing in Iowa, where caucuses will be held tonight. However, this morning, Palin sat down with Matt Lauer ahead of the fateful February 1 events to talk publicly about her endorsement of Trump for the first time, but she was upended by a question about her troubled son, Track, who has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend in an incident involving an assault rifle.

Savannah Guthrie, Lauer’s TODAY co-host, asked Palin a question about Track in regards to her stance on President Obama‘s treatment of the military and PTSD. “And you talked about it and you mentioned PTSD and you said that President Obama may be to blame for some of the PTSD that’s out there.”

Palin responded by saying that she “never said that,” and immediately got defensive regarding Guthrie’s line of questioning. Palin accused Lauer and Guthrie of breaking their “promise” to stick to only matters involving the Iowa caucus, and balked at their response that said “promise” never existed.
