Johnny Manziel will reportedly be cut by the Cleveland Browns next month, the unfortunate end to a seesaw year-and-a-half in the NFL for the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner, whose versatile play at quarterback for Texas A&M prompted the Browns to trade up to select him with the 22nd pick in the first round. All reports pointed to Manziel’s off-field antics being the reason the team was ready to move on from him, but at most, his reported troubles were littered with incessant partying videos. Today’s news certainly adds some depth to Manziel’s problems.

WFFA News 8‘s Rebecca Lopez reported today that Manziel struck his ex-girlfriend, Collen Crowley, several times in an incident this past Saturday at Hotel ZaZa in downtown Dallas, Texas, and eventually threatened to kill her and himself in a fit of rage. Manziel’s assault reportedly began at the hotel and continued in Fort Worth, where the couple drove after leaving the hotel, according to a police report cited by both WFFA and ESPN. Crowley told police that Manziel was acting “as if he were on some kind of drugs,” but the 2nd year quarterback denied the allegation.
