Super Bowl 50 is proving we won’t even have to wait until Sunday to catch the extra special commercials the football finale’s known for. Corporations like Bud Light, Heinz and Pepsi are handing over huge bucks for the highly coveted 30-second spots during the game’s break. There have already been a number of commercials released starring people like Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Seth Rogan and America’s favorite CoverGirl, Janelle Monae.

Sporting her signature pompadour, Monae travels through time in her new “Joy of Pepsi” commercial. The electric lady and Wandaland frontwoman stuns as she sports three different looks supporting the colorful decades of music that inspire her style. Accompanied by a slew of dancers, the ad features a 50s inspired Monae who transitions into the 80s and then ends in the present time. The 39-second video is just enough to show why Janelle Monae can do no wrong when it comes to music and fashion. The versatile artist displays her true essence while doing what she does best.

Amid the turmoil surrounding racial injustice in America, Monae has been very vocal on where she stands. From appearing at protests to vocalizing her thoughts on police brutality, Monae is not afraid to speak out. The singer even dedicated one of her most recent releases, “Hell You Talmbout” to police killings in America. The single highlights the injustices Black people face in regards at the hands of law enforcement. The singer chanted the song while at a march for Sandra Bland, the woman who died in police custody July 2015.

Her social consciousness is just one of the things we love about Janelle Monae. Superbowl Sunday is set to be full of sports and entertainment. With confirmed halftime acts Coldplay and Beyoncé everyone will be in for a treat.
