Black History Month arrives every February and it serves as a correction of an imbalance in recognition. Every year we celebrate the work of important african american figures and overall progress. The world collectively pays homage this month and tributes to a historically under appreciated faction of the population.

The celebration that is the month of February has spurred a desire for footwear brands like Nike, adidas and even Under Armour to try their hand at delivering cooly themed tribute sneakers. All star Golden State Warriors player Stephen Curry recently donned a metallic silver version of his signature kicks that were a display of Black History Month appreciation.  The excellent thing about “BHM” sneakers is that far beyond the month of February, people can rock the items and make every month Black History Month.

Nike, Beaverton Oregon based giants of footwear, have consistently since 2003 dealt with Black History Month by decking out some of their most coveted shoe silhouettes in colorful, vivid and sometimes ethnic prints and hues. With a stylized grouping of the letters BHM as a logo, some of the athletic and lifestyle sneakers  designated to african american heritage are completely warranted on their own as classic Nikes.  Here we take a look back and rank the current lineup of Nike Black History Month kicks.

Air Force 1 Low 

Nike had a take a look at its roots in regards to embodying the roots of african american heritage in order to re-release today the inaugural BHM Nike Air Force 1 Low. The swoosh began their cosign of Black History Month in 2005 with the respected classic Air Force 1 shoe dressed in a stark white color way that integrated the hues of the Pan-American flag. A classic red/ white pair of Forces with a messaging behind them.
