It’s no secret First Lady Michelle Obama and Beyoncé are big fans of one another. Which is why it should come as no surprise to see the First Lady is just as stoked as the rest of the Beyhive collective to see the “Formation” singer in all her glory alongside Cold Play and Bruno Mars at the Super Bowl 50 halftime show tonight [Sunday, February 7].
In an interview with Gayle King who talked to the Obamas abut their Super Bowl traditions, Mrs. Obama made it plain and clear she was totally here for Beyoncé’s performance. She revealed to King, “I care deeply about the halftime show. I got dressed for the halftime show. I hope Beyoncé likes what I have on.” Mrs. Obama shared jokingly.
The two powerful women have shared a mutual respect for one another since President Obama’s induction into office. Aside from being a strong advocate of getting President Obama elected for both terms, in 2011 Beyoncé joined in Mrs. Obama’s Lets Move! Campaign. In 2013 she sang at the President’s inauguration into office for his second term, not to mention performing at the White House for Mrs. Obama’s 50th birthday back in 2014.
