RJD2 burst onto the scene with 2002’s Deadringer, a brilliant opus swollen with inventive (mostly) instrumental Hip Hop. A few emcees did pop up on the record, including longtime friend/fellow Soul Position member Blueprint, former MHz Legacy rapper Copywrite and Jakki da Motamouth.

Fourteen years later, the Philly-based producer (real name Ramble Jon Krohn) has crafted an impressive body of work and collaborated with countless artists, culminating with 2015’s STS x RJD2 with rapper Sugar Tongue Slim (STS). RJD2 had a few moments to talk about the new single and reveal the meaning behind it.

“‘Peace of What’ was really just me coming from an honest place in regards to the issue of gun violence as a born and bred American,” RJD2 tells The Source. “It’s a complex, multifaceted issue, and I don’t think a “silver bullet solution” exists, but hopefully a contributing step towards anything changing is honest talk.”
