On February 19, Race, a Jesse Owens biopic, will be released to theaters nationwide starring Stephen James, Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons and more. The movie, directed by Stephen Hopkins, will cover Jesse Owens’ journey from being a relentlessly discriminated against track and field star to a four-time gold medalist at the controversial 1935 Berlin Summer Olympics.

In the above clip, which we’re bringing to you exclusively, Hopkins speaks passionately about the making of the film, and how astounded he was that a 20-year-old could carry such immense political and social weight on his shoulders after examining the life of the real life Jesse Owens.
