The Harlem-born singer, songwriter, actor, and social activist is clear on his thoughts for those who say “it’s just two bad years,” regarding the absence of people of color being nominated for major Oscars two years running.

“Black people,” Belafonte says, “are once again at the doorstep, the new wave, of racist definitions and racist practices.”

When Zakaria asks Mr. Belafonte, 88, if this is directly connected to President Obama‘s election, Belafonte opines, “I think a Black man in the White House awakened an awful lot of dichotomies.”

The interview will air in its entirety this Sunday [February 14] 10am ET and repeat at 1pm ET on CNN.
