It appears the 58th Annual Grammy Awards may have had some trouble recruiting talent for this year’s performances, as yet another artist has announced they will not be performing for the show following Drake’s announcement. Nicki Minaj took to her social media today [Saturday, February 13] to announce she would not be one of the performers, despite the organization advertising her as one and being nominated for three major awards for the big night in music.
Despite receiving some major nods from the Grammy association such as nominations for ‘Best Rap Album’ for the The Pinkprint, ‘Best Rap/Sung Collaboration’ for “Only” featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown. Not to mention ‘Best Rap Performance’ for “Truffle Butter” featuring Drake and Lil Wayne. Minaj regretfully announced she would not be a part of this year’s show, which caused some fans to speculate perhaps this was a result of her significant other Meek Mill currently being on house arrest for violating his parole. She took to Instagram with the following post.
I know I’m in the commercial but I actually won’t be performing. I want to thank the Grammys for being super sweet & supportive & for recognizing The Pinkprint. Maybe next year will make more sense in terms of timing and I’ll create a very special performance for you guys. In the mean time, enjoy the show!
This comes on the heels of Drake announcing just last week he would not be performing despite the Grammys advertising him for the 58th installment of the show. However the show will go on, as acts such as Adele, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Miguel and more are scheduled to appear on stage come this Monday.
