This summer’s set to get even hotter for superstar duo Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The comedic pair have been selected to host the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, airing Sunday, April 10 at 8pm ET. According to Variety, the event will be “pre-taped live-style” the day before the broadcast and interestingly take place outdoors across multiple locations.
The Movie Awards will be celebrating the show’s 25th anniversary, hence the celebratory experiment.
“We want to do a big, brave thing to celebrate movies,” the show’s exec producer Casey Patterson says of filming the event, which will be done at the Warner Bros. studio backlot. “We love Kevin and Dwayne for doing big, risky, bold things. Most award shows play it safe. They’re the right guys to take big swings.
“We could not be in better hands than with these two guys because they really represent what it means to be a movie star right now. They talk directly to their fans all the time. They are always in a conversation with their fans.”
“It’s an honor to be hosting the MTV Movie Awards with a guy who’s not only one of the funniest guys on the planet, but who’s often mistaken as my twin, Kevin Hart,” said Johnson. “We live for our fans and promise to make this an epic, historic unforgettable night for them.”
Hart commented, “I love hosting — it’s my thing. Dwayne and I are the perfect team for the epic 25th anniversary show. It’s going to go down.”
And as for the current hot topic of diversity in film? There will be plenty of coverage for it—as always.
“We are just organically diverse,” Patterson says. “The beautiful thing about the MTV Movie Awards is that we’re not based on an academy or any outside organization. We really just represent the fans and the films that they love to see and it’s just organically diverse — it just it.”
