The New York Jets have just released veteran cornerback Antonio Cromartie, marking the end of his second run with the team. The Jets announced they have parted ways with the four-time Pro Bowler. Seth Walder of the NY Daily News reported the Jets have saved $8 million. Cromartie returned to the Jets this past offseason with former teammate and superstar CB Darrelle Revis. The Jets looked as if they upgraded their secondary in a huge way, which helped them reach 10 wins in their first year under new head coach Todd Bowles.
Although Cromartie started all 15 games he appeared in during the 2015 run, he didn’t record a single interception and didn’t play like the CB everyone once knew in New York.
Cromartie posted on his Instagram after being released:
First I would like to give thanks to my Lord and Savior because everything that I’ve been blessed with is because of you. Thank you again. Now I would like to thank the Jets Organization for bringing me back this past season. I had a lot of fun and I know my first half of the season didn’t go well and I thank you guys for pushing and believing in me while keeping me on the field so I could finish strong.
