February has been nothing short of greatness. We became witnesses to dope moments and the birth of superstars in the black community who is teaching our youth that it’s alright to step up and speak out. If it isn’t Cam Newton, it’s people in the music industry such as Beyonce whose amazing Super Bowl performance gives the next generation the voice and confidence to express how amazing, how fascinating being a black in society is despite the scrutiny that occasionally comes with major praise. As we continue to say our last goodbyes to one of the game’s greatest, let’s continue to take some time to appreciate what the Black Mamba has done for the game. 20 years with one franchise which results in 18 All Star Game appearances, 11 All NBA First Team selections, 5 NBA Finals banners being risen and 2 NBA Finals MVP being earned are just resume builders that makes you immortal. Kobe will forever be what Fabolous would say your favorite “Young OG” to look up towards for the next generation of ballers who need a crash course of how the evolution of the game has transpired. Now once the torch is finally passed, who will be the next one to hold it down in true OG status? Will it be LeBron? Kevin Durant? Russell Westbrook? Derrick Rose? Carmelo Anthony? James Harden? Chris Paul? or Steph Curry? Only time will tell but it’s looking like the future is shining bright like a diamond for the NBA. Happy Black History Month, sports fans. Let the scoff continue.
