The tension between Joey Bada$$ and Troy Ave came to a head last night when Ave released “Bad Ass,” a track aimed at Joey’s neck, to Soundcloud last night. The Brooklyn rappers tussled on social media last year over who was the more successful independent artist after Joey commented on the success of his proper debut album, B4.DA.$$, which debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 and sold just under 60,000 copies in its first week on the shelves. At the time, Ave retorted with claims that Joey was only “fake” independent, and was in fact involved with several big-name brands and businesses.

On Joey’s most recent release, “Ready,” which came after his lecture at NYU last week, he threw in a light jab at Troy Ave, rapping, “My n*gga Kirk just outsold Troy Ave,” referencing his fellow Pro Era artist, Kirk Knight, who released his debut project, Late Knight Special, this past October. Clearly, this didn’t sit well with Ave, who dropped the aforementioned diss last night, and called out Capital STEEZ in the process, claiming that the fallen Pro Era rapper is “burning in hell”–an ugly maneuver.
