If you ask any casual soccer fan who the two best players in the world are, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured above) will quickly be the first two names out of their mouths. Sure, Neymar, maybe even James Rodriguez would get a couple write-in votes, but let’s be real. Messi and Ronaldo is who the argument comes down to, and it’s quite a contentious one. Think, Stephen Curry vs LeBron James in the NBA.
Unfortunately, this very argument turned a bit too contentious for a pair of friends in Mumbai, India, and it resulted in the death of one of them. According to a Telegraph report, two Nigerian men got into an argument over the two world-renowned footballers, who together have won every ballon d’Or–the world football MVP award–since the award’s inception in 2010. Obinna Michael Durumchukwa reportedly threw a glass at his friend, Nwabu Chukwuma, and after the glass broke upon making impact with the ground, Chukwuma retaliated, picking up a shard of glass and taking it to Durumchukwa’s neck, cutting his throat.
Chukwuma, 22, is currently in police custody, and being held at a precinct in India.
