Earlier this month, LL Cool J took to his Twitter in response to a blog post that claimed that a “whole generation of kids” wouldn’t know that LL Cool J was a multi platinum-selling rapper. The rapper, actor and GRAMMYs host reminded everyone that he’s “one of the best to ever touch that mic,” and that his recent hiatus could be credited to the fact that he “stepped away” and let everyone “breathe.”

Just a week later, it looks as if the Queens native and inaugural signee to Def Jam is out to prove his point, according to new video footage from Dr. Dre‘s Apple Music Beats1 radio show, The Pharmacy. In the brief clip, which you can watch above, LL scribbles some rhymes on a notepad before stepping up to the mic and letting them rip over an unreleased instrumental by Dr. Dre, who was nearby soaking in the moment.

Cool J hasn’t released an album since 2013’s Authentic, but has been teasing the release of a 14th LP, G.O.A.T. 2, a follow-up to the first and only #1 album of his career, G.O.A.T., which dropped in 2000.
