The Daily News reports the victim has been identified as Dale Reid and was allegedly punched in the head and knocked down to the ground, where the assailants continued attacking him. Up to 10 people are suspected to be involved in the brutal beating.

Reid’s wife, Laverne Reid, told the News, “When he fell, all the guys started jumping in and hitting on him…that was it. Everybody punched him and he was already dead.”

The two only recently tied the knot this past September, after meeting when Laverne was still a waitress at Johnny’s. Apparently, Johnny’s was notorious for bar fights, which sadly ended Reid’s short life.

Reid’s wife also told the News her husband would often complain about the outrageous number of fights he broke up while working there: “It’s always violent — I know myself, working there…They always have fights. And he’s always there to separate them, made sure no one got hit.”

As of late this afternoon [Saturday, March 12], no arrests have been made, but police are questioning three people who had been in the bar at the time of the attack.
