Four teens and students of Grosse Pointe High School are responsible for the community’s outrage. Upset students brought awareness to the photo after pleading with one student who was in the photo to remove it from Snapchat. After deeming it “just a joke” and ignoring the concerned student’s plea, word online got around of the offensive material in the photo. Now students and parents alike want answers.

Following in the footsteps of teens in Phoenix, Arizona, who were disciplined for spelling out the word n**** on t-shirts, four Michigan teens are under fire for writing the phrase on their skin.

Superintendent of Grosse Pointe issued a statement regarding the incident, citing the students were off campus. “We had four students at a party downstairs in a home. They went through the process of taking a picture, posting it online and once it went viral, there were exchanges back and forth between the students, resulting in two other students being disciplined for threatening comments.” The students in the photo have been suspended for a week. The local police have also been notified of the situation and are currently investigating the incident.

Miracle Bailey, president of the diversity club at Grosse Pointe, was the student who confronted one of the teens after seeing the photo posted on Snapchat. “She was resistant and didn’t want to take it down because she thought it was a joke,” Bailey said. After her request to remove the photo failed, a friend of Bailey spread it on social media to bring awareness to the offensive matter. After tensions escalated the students apologized for posting the photo in a tweet from the school’s newspaper. For more on the story check out the video below.
