The above photograph was taken at Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 3/The Life of Pablo reveal at Madison Square Garden last month. It was one of the rare times Frank Ocean, the enigmatic Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter that dropped one of the most confident contemporary R&B efforts of his generation in 2012, and subsequently vanished, despite promising a new album last summer.
Since July 2015, which is when we were originally expected to receive a new Frank Ocean album, has come and gone, speculation continues to rise. Outside of the MSG listening party, Ocean has been spotted on FaceTime with Rich The Kid, and on Instagram with his brother, but not in many other places. His close collaborator and co-writer, Malay, has an explanation for that. “I feel like he’s working harder than he’s ever worked in his life,” Malay tells Pitchfork, “I’m excited for everyone to hear it. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised, for sure.”
When will it arrive? “I always tell people: When he’s ready, the world is gonna get it. It could be tomorrow… well not tomorrow but maybe a month [laughs].”
It’s not funny, Malay.
