TheSource.com: What inspired you to become an artist?
Christina Chriss: My love for music and performing is what inspired me to start my career. I loved it more than anything and knew it was what I wanted to do with my life. Funny little story: my mom recently texted me a picture of a school paper of mine from second grade she saved that asked what I wanted to be when I grew up and my answer was “a singer.” I guess you could say I made up my mind early on. I spent a lot of time with my grandma when I was really young; she’s the one who got me started singing when I was five. I remember her telling me that I had a special voice and to never stop singing. She passed away that same year, but her message always stuck in my head. I began playing violin and guitar as a kid, and joined my first band right after high school. I grew up in and around Detroit, and came up loving Hip Hop, Rock and Pop. I formed my band Kaleido in 2012.
What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far and why?
The biggest highlight of my career so far has been working with Grammy Award-winning producer Detail on my new solo project. Detail brought a lot out of me as an artist and taught me a lot. I’m looking forward to putting the music out. It’s really my introduction to the world as a solo artist.
How has your life changed since you began your journey and what are you expecting next?
I’ve dedicated my entire life to my craft and have had some incredible experiences and met some amazing people because of it. Touring with my band Kaleido has allowed me to travel all over the country. I’m truly blessed to be able to say that I am making my dreams my reality. My life is the biggest inspiration for my music. What am I expecting next? Releasing more new music and continuing my journey. So far, I have only released the first single “From The Way” featuring Trick Trick. There’s a lot more music to drop and I’m really looking forward to introducing myself to the world.
