Great hosiery does not need to cost a fortune. The Source sat down with the extraordinary CEO to chat about her awesome hosiery line and why she thinks all women should be celebrated!1. What was the initial trigger that converted you from broadcast television to the 5-star hosiery world?I am from the Philippines and I couldn’t find hosiery that matched my skin tone. It was frustrating. I found myself compromising with what was available.
2. What were some of your qualms about the hosiery that was available on the market?
Number one, lack of choice in skin tones. The price point versus quality. And then finally the quality. They ran easily, they sagged, they were not comfortable.
3. Not generally seen from many brands, what made you cover the entire spectrum of shades in your line?
In fact, Frangi Pangi is the only line that covers the entire spectrum. Initially I wanted to just created a line for ‘women of color’ but when I shared my idea with my Caucasian girlfriends they said they also had the same issues.
4. Who are some of the fashion icons you look to for superb quality?
I love Valentino and Chanel.
5. Any tips to readers on how to pick the perfect hosiery?
The first thing is to match the color to your arms because the color of your arm changes to the season faster than your legs will so if you want an even look you want your legs to match your arms. When it comes to choosing the best FP color for you — go one shade warmer if you want to give your skin that tan look. And for the best comfort – be sure to consider your height and weight. If you are in the gray zone always go one size larger.
Women tend to want to buy the smaller size because they see themselves than they really are. I do it all the time. It’s critical to be honest with yourself so that you can have that comfortable tucked in feel and not that squished and pained look. We celebrate women no matter their size and shape.6. Where do you see yourself venturing off to next in the lingerie department?
I’d love to expand the colors to bras and underwear — also create a more high cut panty style for the most popular colors.
***While Maminta has received many awards over the years for public appearances and has garnered support for a large variety of non-profits in every market she’s worked in, the organization that is dearest to her heart is Caroline’s Room. Maminta’s daughter Caroline, was born prematurely and passed away after two months in the Neonatal Intensive Care. From this experience Jocelyn learned firsthand of the need for a place in the NICU where families can go to find peace, privacy, and comfort. The mission of the Caroline’s Room Fund is to ease the trauma of families with children in Neonatal Intensive Care. Caroline’s Rooms are designed to provide a safe haven within the NICU where parents can meet in privacy with their child’s caregivers, plot strategies, and deal with outcomes. In amidst of crisis and struggle, families can find comfort, peace, and a sense of home. More than 50,000 families a year lose babies at birth from complications of premature birth, and there are hundreds of thousands of families who deal with many uncertain outcomes.
Caroline’s Rooms are being built in hospitals across America to provide a safe haven and a place of respite and hope; of spiritual and medical guidance at a time of need. There are currently ten Caroline’s Rooms in Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Texas, and Virginia. In 2016, Caroline’s Room will be adding rooms in Dallas and Columbus, Ohio.
