Yesterday, Beyonce revealed her three new signees to the record label leg of her Parkwood Entertainment company, and among them was Houston-born Brooklyn rapper Ingrid, who let a new song, “Double Pedigree,” fly in correspondence with the announcement (you can check that out below). Today, Ingrid has followed up that new release with a brand new music video, “Flex,” featuring Sevyn Streeter, in which she returns to her hometown of Houston, Texas for a riveting visual that shows off different facets of Houston culture that were likely paramount to Ingrid’s childhood, and are still prevalent in her life in adulthood. From the arcades and whips to the strip clubs and crawfish, there’s a little bit of Texas in every corner of this new video.

Ingrid grew up in the same Houston suburb as Beyonce, and as it happens, their mothers were close friends. She told Elle that their relationship is “very personal,” but she never expected a record deal to come of it. Well, now she has one, but this isn’t her first working interaction with Queen Bey. Back in 2013, when Beyonce surprise-released her 5th studio album, Beyonce, it was Ingrid that Bey called upon to co-write. It’s pretty easy to draw comparisons between the “Flex” video, and Beyonce’s “Angels,” which was also shot in Houston, meaning the avenues of influence between the two artists are likely two-way streets.
