Will Smith, former Saints defensive end, was tragically shot and killed Saturday night in New Orleans [April 9] in what is being called an act of road rage.
Smith and his wife were driving together when they were involved in a minor car accident. Soon after, a 28 year old man, Cardell Hayes, who claims to be a professional football player as well, let out multiple shots on the couple. Hayes killed Will after hitting him in the back and right torso, and injured his wife Racquel.
This past March, Saints Hall Of Fame unanimously elected Will for induction this fall. The official announcement is scheduled for May 17, but media outlets have broken the news early, in the wake of the Saints star’s passing.
The Saints Hall Of Fame expresses its condolences to Will’s family and will continue with the set dates for announcement and induction.
