MAC Cosmetics is introducing a new line dedicated to late singer Selena Quintanilla.
The successful Tejano singer was in the midst of a crossover career when she was killed in Corpus Christi, Texas. Twenty one years later the singer’s legacy lives on with a fan-base that continuously honors Selena’s contributions to music and entertainment.
Along with being a positive role model to teens, Selena is seen as a fashion icon. The singer’s style has become a topic so popular, it has thousands of social media posts dedicated to it. From tumblr to Twitter, Selena’s bold style choices are a social media fashion favorite.
Last year a petition was made on Change.org to get a make-up line in honor of Selena’s legacy. The petition received 37,000 signatures, prompting MAC Cosmetics Creative Director James Gager to pursue the line.
In a statement on Instagram, Selena’s sister Suzette showed her support for the line. “I wanted the colors to be about her personally, what she wore on and off stage. She has been gone for 21 years already, and for this collaboration to happen, it’s pretty much incredible. It just shows the love her fan base has even though she’s gone; that her music still lives on and her legacy has grown tremendously since she’s passed. It’s a great honor to have M·A·C collaborate with Selena’s name and her fans — FOR her fans.”
MAC announced the the arrival of the line in July. The line will be released this October.
