Last August, rapper Kevin Gates was performing a show in Lakeland, FL when he kicked a woman in the front row. The video of the incident went viral and the woman, Miranda Dixon, soon pressed charges. Today, Gates’ reps have stated that the rapper was acting in self defense in the incident, citing Florida’s “Stand Your Ground Law,” the same defense that was used in the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman trial.

In new legal documents retrieved by TMZ, Gates claims that the woman grabbed him twice during his show. He gave her a verbal warning the first time and says he had the right to defend himself the second time and wants the judge to dismiss the case.
