April 20, otherwise known as “420,” is the annual celebration of the consumption of cannabis. While some rally together to advocate for its legalization, others gather to light one (or twenty) in honor of the “holiday.”

Marijuana has inspired several notable artists to create some of the best smoking songs. From Styles P and Lil’ Wayne to Cypress Hill and Badgalriri, below are 20 tracks to provide the soundtrack to the “weed day” cypher.

1. “Because I Got High” Afroman

Afroman got high and forgot about all of his other responsibilities. He also forgot to make another hit, however, lucky for him, this song continues to be a 420 favorite.

“I’m gonna stop singing this song because I’m high. I’m singing this whole thing wrong because I’m high. And if I don’t sell one copy, I know why. Because I’m high”

2. “Good Times (I Get High)” Styles P

An oldie but goodie, Styles P takes tokes and relives the memories of the hood; fom the pain to the guns to the blood shed.

“I get high cause I’m in the hood, the guns is around. It takes a blunt just to ease the pain that humbled me now…I get high when bullets hit faces after words exchanged”

3. “I’m So High” T-Pain ft. Styles P

Everyone remembers his or her first experiences with weed. T-Pain joined by Styles P to sing about his first time.

“See I ain’t ever smoke before, so I’m gonna take two hits and I’m gonna blowwwww my mind away. I never thought I’d be getting high today. Now it’s on me again, so I take another pull (woooooo). We in the Cadillac, floating like the ocean. Suddenly everything was moving in slow motion”

4. “I Feel Like Dying” Lil’ Wayne

A song that tiptoes on the thin line between delight and addiction, Lil Wayne samples Henry Ate’s “Once” to tell us how he feels once his drugs are gone.

“I am sitting on the clouds, I got smoke coming from my seat. I can play basketball with the moon, I got the whole world at my feet…only once the drugs are done, then I feel like dying.”

5. “Hits From the Bong” Cypress Hill

Released in 1993, “Hits From the Bong” suggests putting the blunt down for a second to take a smooth clean hit from the bong.

“Pick it, pack it. Fire it up, come along and take a hit from the bong….I like a blunt or a big fat cone but my double barrel bong is getting me stoned.”

6. “Blueberry Yum Yum” Ludacris

Ludacris has the ultimate marijuana. The blueberry yum yum is a blue-ish green, flavorful and sticky strain of weed made popular by Ludacris.

“Get your lighters, roll that sticky, lets get higher. Got that blueberry yum yum and it’s that fire…..I’mma keep smoking til I reach my peak peak peak peak. Or til I’m stuck and my body feels weak weak weak weak. “

7. “How to Roll A Blunt” Redman

Redman gives a step-by-step guide on how to roll the perfect blunt.

“Lick the blunt and then the Philly blunt middle you split. Don’t have a razor blade, use your f***** fingertips….Take your finger and your thumb from tip to tip. Roll it in a motion then the top piece you lick. Seal it, dry it with your lighter if you gotta. The results, ….proper”

8. “Gin and Juice” Snoop Dogg

This is a classic song from Snoop Dogg with a catchy hook about the nonchalant life in Long Beach City.

“Rollin down the street, smoking indo. Sippin on gin and juice, laid back. With my mind on my money and my money on my mind”

9. “Hands on the Wheel” Schoolboy Q

Schoolboy Q talks about being turnt up on a summer night with his homies. Hands on the Wheel samples Pursuit of Happiness by Lissie and features A$AP Rocky.

“Let’s get stupid high, to where I cant reply. Love smoking dope, I wont compromise. Weed and brews, weed and brews, life for me is just weed and brews.”

10. “Purple Swag” A$AP Rocky

Dedicated to his homies who get high on a regular basis off of everything purple.

“Purple drank, I still sip, purple weed, blunt still lit….Purple swag, that trill sh*t…. Purple swag, purple swag, I’m in the zone, I’m getting throwed. That Purple swag, purple swag, that purple smoke in my clothes.”

11. “Mary Jane” Rick James

Mary Jane is another name for Marijuana. Rick James uses this code name to express his love for the herb.

“I’m in love with Mary Jane. She’s my main thing. She makes me feel all right. She makes my heart sing.”

12. “I Got Five On It” Luniz

Another 420 classic from a couple of dudes who just want to get high, but all they have is “five” on it. Five dollars to split a dime bag is pretty uncommon now a days. Luniz would have been out of luck in this day in age.

“I got some bucks on it, but it aint enough on it. Go get the S-T- I-D-E-S. Nevertheless I’m hella fresh, rolling joints like a cigarette. So I pass it across the table like ping-pong. I’m gone”

13. “How High” Method Man and Redman

The first collaboration between the dynamic duo, which also appeared on the soundtrack to How High, the movie.

“Look up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane. It’s the Funk Doctor Spot smoking Buddha on a train. How high, so high I can kiss the sky.

14. “Rotation” Wale

Featuring Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz, Wale brings Travis Scott on to produce this record about a super cypher.

“One more to get my lungs warm, two more to get me numb to it.….five blunts in rotation, five blunts”

15. “Weed Song” Bone Thugs N Harmony

This song by Bone Thugs needs no explanation. It’s the perfect smoking song.

“Do you feel the same weed high that I feel? Cuz I’m so high, and feeling so right. Roll, lets smoke, I got to get high. I been high since the last song. Off that la la la la”

16. “Still Blazin” Wiz Khalifa

It’s no secret Wiz Khalifa gets baked all the time, but sometimes he just likes to sit back, relax and enjoy a joint by himself. Let the mind wander and blaze up!

“Why can’t everyone just smoke like me? Just gimme a quiet place and lemme roll my weed. Where aint nobody in my business, don’t nobody gotta know. Let all your conscious go and blow it by the O”

17. “Young Wild & Free” Snoop Dogg & Wiz

The two big smokers of the industry team up for this fun and catchy song about living life with no regrets. Bruno Mars is featured on the hook, singing about the joy of being young, wild and free.

“Roll joints bigger than King Kong’s fingers and smoke them hoes down til they stingers…so what we get drunk? So what we smoke weed? We’re just having fun. We don’t care who sees. Living young and wild and free”

18. “Brown Sugar” D’angelo

While this song may seem like a beautiful love song about a pretty, round, brown tenderoni, D’Angelo serenades to profess his love for marijuana. Similar to that of Rick James – Mary Jane.

“Now that’d be how the story goes. Brown Sugar got me open, now I want some more. Always down for a ménage troi. But I think I’ma hit it solo. Hope my niggaz don’t mind”

19. “James Joint” Rihanna

For my female stoners, you can never go wrong with a little Rihanna. The badgal gives us a mellow tune written by and named after James Fauntleroy. The song could represent her weed or her lover. However, in honor of today, let’s stick with the weed.

“I’d rather be smoking weed, whenever we breathe, every time you kiss me…Don’t know why, just know I want you….Don’t care why, just know I love you.”

20. “420” Method Man

Featured on the album 4:21… The Day After, Method Man declares it’s time to get high. Whether it’s April 20, 4:20am or pm, either you’re in or you’re out, roll up & get your smoke on!

“It’s 4:20, roll up….Power to our people, get your smoke on. And I’m so gone, off that sour diesel.”
