Tupac Shakur’s stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, once on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, has now served 30 years in jail—only half of his 60-year sentence—for allegedly masterminding a string of deadly armed robberies. While there were premature updates heralding his long-awaited release, the current news has turned out to be much more bleak.
Convicted in 1988 for his involvement in the murder of an armed guard and two police officers, Shakur recently requested parole. However, according to the New York Daily News, his appeal has been denied.
The 65-year-old was finally eligible for mandatory federal parole and could only be denied if the commission believed he was likely to re-offend or had habitually violated prison rules. Federal officials will not release why Mutulu’s parole was denied. While federal parole was eliminated in 1987, it is still approved for inmates convicted before then.
The former Black Liberation Army Member will be eligible for parole again in two years.
