Rihanna‘s reign is no more. Desiigner has done what many initially didn’t even deem plausible, but what became quite the practical outcome considering the trajectory of the song’s chart performance over the last month. “Panda,” the controversial but insanely popular single from Brooklyn and G.O.O.D. Music rapper Desiigner, has reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, ending Rihanna’s run at #1 at a whopping nine weeks.

“Panda,” Desiigner’s first-ever official single, began racking up plays on YouTube and gaining popularity on the underground circuit as early as Fall 2015, but rumors that Kanye West had taken up an interest in him, and that the two had a secret meeting at L.A.X. coincided with the success of “Panda” reaching viral status. By the time Kanye West’s unveiled his The Life of Pablo album at MSG in February, it had been announced that G.O.O.D. Music officially signed the Brooklyn rapper. He was featured twice on Pablo, including an interpolation of “Panda” on “Pt. 2.”

So, here we are. “Panda” is #1, and the music video is still forthcoming, meaning Desiigner has a good chance to repeat if his team gets the timing of that release just right.
