Tim Duncan was never as menacing as his contemporaries, like Kevin Garnett or Chris Webber, but he’s been just as dominant, and has won more rings than the both of them combined. What’s more? He’ll be looking to win his 6th this year as the Spurs try to navigate a tricky Western Conference, beginning with a best-of-seven series with the Oklahoma City Thunder that kicks off tomorrow night.

Steven Adams, the gritty defensive specialist that will undoubtedly be tasked with guarding Tim Duncan at times, sort of has a better idea of how to do that, after he made the mistake in previous match-ups of being nice to the laborious Duncan, who he’ll likely be tasked with guarding at various times during this upcoming series.

In the above video clip, you can see Adams talking with reporters about how he made the mistake in the past of laying off the chatty Duncan, only to see the future Hall of Famer ball on him.

And he’s a nice guy. That was my biggest mistake as a rookie. I was like, hitting him all the time, and he was having trouble with it. And then he came over and, like, talked to me a bit. He was like, ‘Hey man, how are you?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, what a nice guy.’ Then he just dropped 20 from thereon.

If the Thunder are going to have a chance in this series, Adams can’t play nice to anyone, especially the 5-time champion and emotional leader of the Spurs. Game 1 goes down tomorrow night. Yeah, we can’t wait either.
