The Weinstein Company released the official trailer for Hands Of Stone yesterday [Thursday, April 28th] with Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez and Panamanian star Ruben Blades.  The huge Latin stars first time working with Robert De Niro who leads the strong cast, as Ray Arcel the New York trainer, Usher starring as his legendary nemesis “Sugar” Ray Leonard and Ramirez as Roberto “Manos de Piedra” Durán.

Many years in the making the film finished shooting about two years ago until they secured distribution at the Cannes Film Festival a year ago. The trailer stylishly profiles Duran’s rise from poverty in the streets of Panama City through the ranks of boxing and what appears to be the infamous 1980 rematch between Duran and Leonard.

Ramirez has crossed over into American films after starring in Zero Dark Thirty and will reprise the role of Venezuelan historical figure Simón Bolívar in The Liberator (releases October 3 in the States).

Rubén Blades is a Grammy Award winning musician with a groundbreaking extensive career. Blades is also an Emmy nominated actor in American films such as Predator 2 (1990), Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2005) and his current role in AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. He will star as former manager Carlos Eleta in the film.

John Turturro will play the role of New York gangster Nicky Carbo, who came to be known as “The Czar of Boxing” and the Mob’s unofficial commissioner. On August 26, 2016 Hands of Stone will be distributed in over 2,000 theaters nationwide.
