The majestic Broadway musical written and directed by multi-faceted writer, actor and director Lin Manuel-Miranda has made Tony Awards history, snagging a whopping 16 nominations, including Best New Musical, Best Lead Actor in a Musical, Best New Play and Best New Musical Revival. Hamilton breaks the record of previous nominations held by The Producers, the 2001 musical written by Mel BrooksThe Producers also holds the record for the most victories in a single Tony Awards with 12, another record Hamilton will likely have its eye on when the winners are announced in June.

Hamilton began as an off-Broadway production, but after praise by everyone from the Obamas to Beyonce, it quickly became the hottest ticked on Broadway, selling out shows months in advance. Lin Manuel-Miranda took home a Pulitzer Prize last month for his work on the musical, and he freestyled on the White House Front Lawn earlier this year with Barack Obama, in a video clip that has since gone viral.

In addition to the play’s on-stage success, Hamilton took home the Grammy award for Best Musical Theater album in February, and a Hamilton mixtape is currently in the works, featuring collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Busta Rhymes and Usher.
