Mvula’s voice has been compared to those of Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. In an interview with the U.K.’s The Evening Standard, Mvula talked about her relationship with late legend Prince. “He was one of the biggest champions of my work,” she says, welling up but smiling. “He spent time putting my name out. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’d go places in the world and people would say, “I know your music because of Prince.”
