This is the fourth postponement in Shmurda’s trial, which was initially scheduled for February 22, then delayed until May 11 and then moved to May 12. This postponement however comes at the request of Shmurda’s attorney Alex Spiro as well as those of the trial’s three other defendants.

In December 2014, Shmurda and seven others were arrested following an extensive NYPD investigation on charges ranging from murder to drug related charges. The men arrested were originally split into two trials, with Rashid Derrisant a.k.a. “Rasha” and Alex Crandon a.k.a. “A-Rod” being convicted of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy for the February 2013 killing of a 19-year-old rival gang member last month.

Just last week, the body of 28-year-old Peter Martinez, reportedly a high-ranking member of GS9 washed up on the shore of Manhattan Beach in New York. Martinez was found wrapped in plastic bags with duct tape on his face and over 100 pounds of cement covering his feet.
