Lupita Nyong’o‘s price went way, way up after she won the Academy Award for her role in 12 Years a Slave in 2014, and she’s got several high profile projects on the horizon. One of them is the Disney-helmed Queen of Katwe, a based-on-a-true-story film about a struggling mother striving for excellence in the slums of Uganda. The mother’s daughter, Phiona, develops a knack for playing–and being good–at chess, and the lessons she learns become analagous to her family’s unenviable position in life.
Nyong’o’s character will do her best to balance protecting her daughter from heartbreak, and pushing her to be the best she can be in Queen of Katwe, which hits theaters on September 23. Watch the trailer above.
