After being hospitalized for attempting suicide earlier this year, R&B singer Kehlani is recovering and progressing well as she’s back to touring and proving she’s in high spirits. During a recent stop on her tour, following the release of a powerful song about mental illness called “24/7,” Kehlani spoke to fans directly, addressing mental illness and how to prevent it. “[Suicide] is something that so many young people are dealing with,” she expressed to the crowd.

“And so many young people slip under the rug to things like depression, severe anxiety, and many disorders people know nothing about. Please don’t try it. Don’t do it.” She then reflected back to her own suicide stating, “It wasn’t a first time thing, and that’s not okay… for anyone. Not for the people around you, not for the people that love you, not for the people that care about you.” The singer then went on to say that she’s an advocate of the Suicide Prevention Hotline, and encourages anyone that has suicidal thoughts should call (1-800-273-8255) immediately.

“From me to you, you are worth it, you are perfect, you need to be here every day you are meant to be here, get up every day and tell yourself that. I love you all very much.”
