The internet’s most infamous Awkward Black Girl will finally be gracing our television sets. Issa Rae is the brain and hilarious inspiration behind the ABG series that touched the hearts and souls of Black girls across the web. For years HBO was rumored to premiere a spin-off version of the anecdotal series. Three years after talks of HBO joining forces with Rae, the deal is more official than a whistle. HBO tweeted out the news with the active hashtag #InsecureHBO, so we know it’s real.

Rae has cast some familiar faces for our viewing pleasure. Former The Game star Jay Ellis is set to play Rae’s fine but unemployed boyfriend and Lisa Joyce, who will be starring in Lena Dunham‘s new HBO series, will play her co-worker at an educational non-profit. Rae is known for bringing the funny while keeping it painfully real and we’re almost sure the series will instantly become a fan favorite.
This looks like the opening credits of a 90s sitcom, or just a bomb family cookout pic… Either way, we OUT’CHYEA in DEEZ SKREETZ making a dope show! #InsecureHBO A photo posted by Yvonne Orji (@yvonneorji) on
The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl has garnered 200,000 YouTube subscribers and a total of 20 million views to date. Rae is reeling in those awkward eyes to the big screen at just 31 years old. Rae is a graduate of Stanford University and the New York Film Academy. Her talent and wit has payed off big time, earning her placements on list like Glamour’s “35 Under 35″, Forbes’ “30 Under 30” two times, Rolling Stone’s “23 Funniest people in America” and People Magazine’s “One to Watch” list for 2015.
Issa Rae is proving that you can be awkward, Black and the G.O.A.T. at the same time. Will you be tuned in this fall?
