It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Brooklyn rapper Troy Ave, who is currently behind bars awaiting trial following a shooting at Irving Plaza that left his bodyguard and friend, Ronald McPhatter, dead, and others injured. Just a day after the shooting, Ave was seen on surveillance footage from Irving Plaza emerging from a backstage green room firing gunshots into the venue. The exact circumstances that led to the violent dispute have yet to be confirmed, but for now, Troy Ave is being charged with attempted murder and other endangerment and weapons charges.

In the meantime, he’s doing his best to provide perception to his fans and a platform where his voice can continue to be heard with a brand new mixtape, aptly titled Free Troy Ave, which was released today. The 12-track offering includes a bonus track called “Banga (RIP),” an obvious tribute to McPhatter, who was known as BSB Banga to his friends and affiliates.
