Singer-songwriter Jill Scott married Mike Dobson over the weekend in a low-key, private ceremony. Longtime friend DJ Mars wished the newlyweds congratulations in a handful of Instagram posts, explaining how he was booked for the gig and had no idea he was about to witness Dobson marry the illustrious singer.

Scott’s clever new husband also surprised her with a performance from one of her favorite emcees, Big Daddy Kane. The Grammy Award winning singer doesn’t quite realize what’s going on until Kane starts rapping, but the second it dawns on her who is standing in front of her, the look on her face says it all. Scott was clearly having the best day of her life.

So,Mike Dobson called me and said I’m going to surprise my wife during the reception and have Big Daddy Kane perform. He then says,”Mars you call Kane to work it out”. So im gassed because I’m on the phone strategizing with arguably one of the best rappers period(top 5 of anyone’s list)! Me and Big Daddy Kane on the phone,im geeked! No one knew but me and the husband knew he was about to perform. Dude walks in and they didn’t even recognize him until he starts rapping.
