Yesterday [Thursday, June 30], several reports said Apple has acquired the patent for a technology that would disable iPhones at live events.

The technology that Apple has patented would allow for a live show, such as a musical performer, to set up a machine on stage that would broadcast infrared signals, which your iPhone would pick up, disabling your camera.

This would obviously prevent concert goers from recording the live shows and posting the videos on the internet. It would also mean that there isn’t a sea of phones stuck in the air, with all their flashlights on, trying to record the show, instead of “watching it in the moment.”

This is just another one of the many changes that Apple is bringing to the new iPhone, along with no headphone jack, and other new features. The details seem to change every week, but for now, it seems that using your camera at a live concert might be harder in the future.
