Actress and comedian Leslie Jones was in need of a jaw dropping red carpet number for the premiere of Ghostbusters last week. You’d think it would be easy for the Saturday Night Live comedian to find the “perfect” dress. Who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity to have their designs showcased on the red carpet for press and the world to see? On the 28th of June, she tweeted:
One would think designers are more open minded than ever before. This goes to show that although society has made major strides towards embracing different forms of beauty, we still have to change the status quo. There is no “right” size when it comes to fashion and beauty.
Designer Christian Siriano, the winner of Project Runway Season 4, creates clothing for not only skinny women, but also plus size. He has recently collaborated with retailer Lane Bryant to design a fashionable, flirty, and colorful clothing line for thicker women. The collection hit stores in May 2016. He responded to the tweet with encouraging words, “It shouldn’t be exceptional to work with brilliant people just because they’re not sample size. Congrats aren’t in order, a change is.” Well said, Mr. Siriano!
