Investigation has revealed that two shots fired Tuesday night in Flatbush were not targeting police officers.
At least two gunshots came from a vehicle as it passed two uniformed NYPD officers around 10:40 p.m. on Ditmas Avenue, near East 23rd Street.
The shots were not fired in their direction, according to the New York City Police Department. The officers just happened to be within the radius.
A manhunt for suspects continued Wednesday morning. The vehicle is described as a black Nissan four-door sedan. The officers were not injured and the car drove away.
Police launched a large search for the vehicle; as many as four men were reported to be inside.
Soon after, a Nissan was recovered nearby, and police were attempting to determine if it was the vehicle used in the incidents.
No arrests were made.
Police also recovered surveillance video from an earlier incident, outside the 66th Precinct in Borough Park, Brooklyn, at around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The investigation revealed the shootings are not connected. Video recovered showed the vehicles involved are different. In that incident, as a dark-colored vehicle drove passed the precinct, one of the passengers made a handgun gesture at police officers, then the car drove off.
The incident outside the 66th Precinct appears to be “an innocent thing” that was misinterpreted in the wake of the shots fired.
