The Doc has spoken—but is it too early to give Zach LaVine such fantastic praise or is he accurate with his observation?

When an NBA legend gives you such high praise when you’re just two seasons into your NBA career, you’re doing something right. This is the case for Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard LaVine. In a recent interview, Hall Of Famer Julius Erving came out and said LaVine is up there among the all time greatest dunkers he’s ever seen. The Doc continued and had this to say:

I’ll tell you, Zach has put on a show the last couple of years. He has to get kudos. I don’t know if the surprise factor and the timing coordination dunks that he does are as impactful as what Vince Carter brought to the scene when he did a few things that hadn’t been seen before. I think with Connie Hawkins, myself, Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Clyde Drexler, there’s a lineage there, and I think Vince shook it up a little bit there with a couple of dunks there. I’m gonna let him reside in that spot right there.

The former ABA slam dunk champion became a huge fan of the 2x defending Sprite Slam Dunk champ after watching this past slam dunk contest that occurred during All Star Weekend in Toronto. He compared the epic showdown to the classic dunkoffs like Jordan-Wilkins and himself going up against David Thompson in the ’76 ABA slam dunk contest.

Here’s a friendly reminder of why the Doc is a huge fan of LaVine, as he was able to steal show and the title from Orlando Magic’s Aaron Gordon below.
