Driving around and delivering food to strangers is not the safest job in the world, and that safety decreases as night hours arrive. For a Domino Pizza delivery driver in Albany, NY keeping himself safe was vital to his survival one night.

There were multiple reports of robberies to pizza delivery drivers in his area, so Austin Drake purchased a pellet gun three months ago for a little bit of protection. Drake eventually ran into a situation where his pellet gun was a great deterrent. “We’re going up to these strange houses every night, unarmed,” Drake said. “I mean we’re probably more scared than they are.”

After receiving his final order for the night, Drake knew he was making his way into sketchy territory. An unknown person pointed their gun at Drake’s face, but Drake was prepared. After pulling his own weapon out and facing it towards the robber, the attempted robber ran away.

Drake lost his job due to cooperated policies, but the armed robber got away.

They never contacted me. I never got a call saying I’m sorry, I’m glad you’re okay,” Drake said. He doesn’t want his position with the company back, but he does indeed want the policy to be changed for the future.

Strangely enough, a similar robbery at the same exact address took place three months prior to Austin’s situation. It was around that same time when Austin purchased his pellet gun.
