Mariah Carey is set to guest star on Fox’s hit musical drama Empire this season, the network announced Monday during its panel at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.
The singer appears on the October 5 episode, in which she will play Kitty, a mega-superstar who comes to Empire to collaborate with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on a new song. When the duet encounters obstacles, Kitty helps Jamal dig deep to overcome personal difficulties and reach a musical breakthrough.
Empire Season 3 premieres on September 21. Previously announced guest stars this season include Taye Diggs, Sierra McClain, rapper French Montana, and music mogul Birdman, who plays himself.
With everything else going on, Carey also is about to begin the second half of her Las Vegas residency, “Mariah #1 to Infinity,” which starts at Caesars Palace later this month. She’ll also bring her “Sweet Sweet Fantasy” tour to fans in Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
In addition, her reality show, “Mariah’s World,” premieres on E! this December.
